Despatch 84, Secret, from British Consul-General, Batavia, to Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs [1], of which copy was sent to you.

His Majesty’s Charge d’Affaires, Tokyo [2], reports that Japanese representative [3] left for Lisbon late in June to negotiate about trade in Timor. I should be glad to learn whether His Majesty’s Government in the Commonwealth of Australia desire that any action should be taken by His Majesty’s Ambassador at Lisbon [4] in connection with any of the suggestions contained in the concluding paragraph of the despatch under reference.
