Our UNY 380. [1] Disarmament. Please advise when Australian draft resolution approved by Minister was presented. Instruction to support United Kingdom move to discuss together disarmament and troops [2] was in no sense approval to withdraw disarmament resolution or in any way lose initiative. Please advise immediately present position.

2 After the Security Council had rejected, on 24 September, a U.S.S.R. proposal to have the question of troops of the United Nations in non-enemy territories (see Document 104, note 1) placed on its agenda, the Soviet Union requested that the matter be included on the agenda of the second part of the first session of the General Assembly; the U.K. delegation had then proposed in the First Committee that the item be considered together with the U.S.S.R. item on disarmament.
