At an informal meeting of the parties with U.N.C.I. this evening, 9th May, representatives were appointed to the two sub-committees.

Deputies of members will represent the Commission on sub-committee 1 on the ‘return to Djokjakarta’. This sub-committee will proceed to Djokjakarta on Wednesday morning, 11th May. The members of U.N.C.I. will sit on sub-committee 2 on ‘peace and order’ which will hold its first meeting tomorrow, 10th May. Senior Military Observers will advise the Commission’s Representatives on both sub-committees.

2. The Commission has reported to the Security Council this evening the results of recent discussions.

3. I have received top secret reports that preliminary agreement was unanimously approved by the Netherlands Delegation and Cabinet at The Hague, notwithstanding opposition from Beel and Spoor. Beel has now tendered his resignation but there are strong moves to have him withdraw it.
