Mr R.G. Menzies, Prime Minister, to Mr S.M. Bruce, High Commissioner in London

Cablegram unnumbered 24 September 1939,

HIMSELF PRIVATE AND SECRET

Your private telegram representative abroad [1] -I would not think practical for one man to handle both London Washington.

As regards proposal that I should send a Minister to London for limited period Chamberlain [2] has now formally extended this invitation. Confess I am rather surprised at your nomination [3] but no doubt you have some special reasons. Would be grateful if you could let me know them.
