Kennedy [1] has now advised me that reply to his enquiry was to effect United States Government most gratified learn of Australia’s intention appoint Minister at early date, would regard my being sent to establish Legation as a compliment and while procedure matter for determination of Australian Government indicated off the record that procedure suggested would be entirely acceptable. I have accordingly, in accordance with your cablegram of the 27th October [2], asked the Foreign Office to instruct United Kingdom Ambassador in Washington [3] to take matter up with the Administration there.

Will cable you further as soon as reply received from Ambassador.
