Lt Col W.R. Hodgson, Secretary of Department of External Affairs, to Mr A.T. Stirling, External Affairs Officer in London

Cablegram 85 10 November 1939,

PERSONAL

Have you learnt of any consideration being given to position Netherlands East Indies in the event of German (? occupation of)’ Holland? It would appear that in (? possible contingencies) such action might raise questions affecting for example trade, shipping and German interests in Netherlands East Indies with which we might be called on to deal.

HODGSON
